Bokoo Covers came about by one mom’s mission to make her hectic life easier, cleaner and more efficient.
Between 2003 and 2006, Adriana Rendon had three beautiful and energetic children. Like all moms, she wanted the best for her kids, and that meant a clean, safe and organized environment. Not exactly how one would describe the back seat of her car: "A 9th grade biology class could have taken an entire semester studying what was in those seats," the Colombian native who moved to the U.S. in 1992 to attend Duke University, exclaims.
Fruitless attempts to find a suitable car seat cover that could easily be taken on and off to wash often led Rendon to create one with some fabric scraps and a Target-bought sewing machine. Needless to say, her lack of sewing skills was soon dismissed once the first cover slipped on effortlessly. Rave reviews quickly came from friends, family and, of course, her kids.
"I realized my covers could help with keeping things clean, but the more I spoke to parents, the more I realized safety was also a major issue," says Rendon. "Not only were parents disassembling and incorrectly reassembling the seats every time they wanted to clean them, but they were also putting things on the car seats that shouldn't be there. So now I had to build them properly."
Which is exactly what she did. Between choosing eco-friendly, hypoallergenic GreenGuard and organic fabrics, to working directly with car seat manufacturers and engineers to design the perfect fit, not to mention, putting the covers through countless hours of crash tests, fire retardant tests and chemical tests AND obtaining a patent, Bokoo Covers was finally born!
Rendon lives life to the fullest in Miami, FL. When she’s not trying to eradicate the world’s dirty car seat problem, she enjoys running after her kids and triathlons. She ran her first Sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman and full Ironman in 2010.
